Coming home! The Soltron Atlantic Challenge

Saturday 9th August 2003 saw Spirit of Cardiff finally arriving back in the UK on the last stop of its mammoth voyage. Alan and the team made the fastest ever crossing of the Atlantic by Rigid Inflatable Boat, and what's more to the point is that they have been right around the world, and then some!

Spirit of Cardiff runs out of luck

This time, luck has finally run out. When Alan Priddy, Clive Tully and Jan Falkowski arrived at St Johns harbour on Sunday morning, ready to take Spirit out across the Atlantic, they found the dive platform at the back of the boat submerged and the engine compartment full of water, the bilge pumps unable to cope with the level of flooding.

Round the world route

Round the world the long way -- right round the middle via the Suez Canal and the Panama canal, taking in the North Atlantic and North Pacific along the way! The record breaking route starts and finishes in Gibraltar, with no less than thirty stops on the way.

Alun Michael was First Secretary of the National Assembly for Wales when he first met Alan Priddy and gave strong support to the Spirit of Cardiff venture. He and the local Assembly Member for Cardiff South and Penarth, Lorraine Barrett believe that the project "captures the spirit and energy of the new Cardiff".
