Next stop: Monaco

Greeted by a glorious sunrise, Spirit of Cardiff arrived in Gibraltar yesterday morning, setting a new record of 68 hours 33 minutes and 50 seconds for a powerboat from Cardiff to Gibraltar. After a short refuelling stop, the crew were timed out of Gibraltar at 11.56 local time on their way towards Monaco.

At 7.30 this morning, Alan called via the satellite phone to give the latest update. They had encountered some bad weather during the night, but managed to alter their route to miss the worst of it.

With the boat getting ever lighter as the fuel load reduces, they are picking up speed. Currently travelling at 24 knots in calm seas, they are on schedule to beat the record by between one and two hours.
