Spirit of Cardiff arrives in New York

Spirit of Cardiff has arrived in New York prior to setting off on a four week tour of the Eastern seaboard of the United States and a transatlantic record attempt in May.

On Wednesday, the Spirit of Cardiff team was centre stage at a reception hosted by the Sony Corporation in their exclusive 35th floor club at their offices in Manhattan. Welcoming skipper Alan Priddy was Sony's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer KCMG, who happens to be a native of Cardiff!

Whilst the event was held primarily to introduce the Spirit project to New York without any hard sell, the team was pleasantly surprised to welcome the two first Associate Members to be signed up in America. Alan Bell, whose north-east of England based consultancy works for the Welsh Development Agency in the US, was first to pledge his support to the project, closely followed by Terry Ryan, Director General of the Wales North America Business Council.

Speaking after the event, Spirit of Cardiff project leader Alan Priddy said: "The main aim in coming to the US prior to our transatlantic record attempt was simply to present the project to everyone here, and to help promote the business and cultural ties between Wales and the US. Signing our first two Associate Members here is very much a bonus, and we look forward to welcoming more."

The Spirit of Cardiff's promotional tour of the US starts in New York on the 22nd April, also visiting Boston, Baltimore and Washington before returning to New York and setting off from there on the transatlantic challenge on the 19th May.
