South Street Seaport welcomes Spirit of Cardiff

In beautiful warm spring sunshine, the City of New York welcomed the Spirit of Cardiff. At 12 noon on the dot, Spirit powered in to her mooring at South Street Seaport Museum, situated in the shadow of the famous Brooklyn Bridge, with the rigging of their tall ships set against a stunning backdrop of Lower Manhattan's skyscrapers.

South Street Seaport is situated in a prime tourist area of Manhattan, and in the first few hours after arrival, the Spirit crew did brisk business meeting interested visitors. And of course, the most oft-used phrase was "are you really going round the world in that?" You betcha!

Spirit if Cardiff in New York

Spirit will spend a week at the South Street Seaport Museum, moored next to the 1908 Ambrose lightship before heading off on a promotional tour which takes in Washington, Baltimore and Boston before returning to New York on May 14th. Five days later, the team will set out for the current Ambrose lightship accompanied by a US Coast Guard cutter, which will time the crew out on their record-breaking transatlantic crossing.

It's also the first time in months that the entire crew has been together on the boat, so everybody out there looking forward to receiving their Club Spirit crew photos won't have much longer to wait.
