Spirit of Cardiff departs for Baltimore

After a successful week in New York, Spirit of Cardiff set off on Sunday evening for Baltimore. Her route took her south along the coast from New York to Delaware, and through the Delaware canal to Baltimore.

Skipper Alan Priddy and crew members Steve Lloyd and Clive Tully have been kept busy during the week, explaining the complexities of next year's record-breaking Around the World voyage and this May's transatlantic crossing, and placing Cardiff and Wales on the map for those New Yorkers who weren't too sure where it is. And they've been delighted to welcome a number of visitors from Cardiff, holidaying in the Big Apple.

Spirit's stay in New York coincided with the second annual conference of the Welsh North American Chamber of Commerce held in the Millennium Hilton in New York, and a number of delegates from the Welsh Chamber of Commerce lead by David Williams paid the Spirit a visit on Friday. Later, whilst they were taking a ride on a sightseeing cruise boat past the Statue of Liberty, they were treated to a spectacular "fly-by" as the Spirit of Cardiff made several close passes and tight turns to demonstrate her speed and maneuverability.

The promotional tour has been supported by funding from Cardiff Harbour Authority, and once the Spirit of Cardiff crew set up base for the next week in Baltimore, they will be emphasising the city's close maritime and business links with Cardiff.
