Historic Boston

Following the trend started in New York and Baltimore by stationing the boat close to a prime example of American nautical history, Spirit of Cardiff is now in Boston, next door to the Charlestown naval shipyard, and the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned ship in the United States Navy. On August 19th 1812, she fought a battle with the British frigate HMS Guerriere. Legend has it that the Guerriere's cannon balls bounced harmlessly off the Constitution's oak-planked hull, and when one of her crew commented that her sides must have been made from iron, the affectionate nickname "Old Ironsides" was born.
