Awards for Spirit of Cardiff

Last year, Spirit of Cardiff powered its way into the record books not just once, but twice. In June she made the first ever powerboat circumnavigation of the British Isles, and in October, she broke the Cable & Wireless Adventurer's port-to-port record from Gibraltar to Monaco.

The records have finally received the official stamp of approval from the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) - the international governing body of powerboating - in the form of certificates which were be awarded to the Spirit of Cardiff on Friday 14th December.

plus Alan Pridy and Clive Tully

The presentation was made by Peter Dredge on behalf of the Royal Yachting Association, the UK's governing body for powerboating. Peter is no stranger to powerboat records, and has broken a few world records himself over the years!

The Spirit of Cardiff team didn't hang on to the certificates for long though. "We've decided to present them to the City of Cardiff and Cardiff Harbour Authority", explained Spirit of Cardiff skipper Alan Priddy, "as a token of our appreciation for their help and support since we moved the project here."

are presented by the team to Councillor Marion Drake

The city of Cardiff was represented by Councillor Marion Drake, Deputy Lord Mayor, who thanked Alan and praised the team for their hard work and determination.
