Diary of a world record

Tuesday 29th May
The sea has been glassy smooth during the night. Still following, but with a pleasant shine on top. We now have a new system of watch keeping - 1 on, 3 off, the two supposedly on watch taking aternate hours. Not that there's anything much going on since we're well away from shipping lanes, although I do notice a large white object whistle by at fairly close range during the night.

Despite what you might think to be a very fuel efficient journey, with the sea behind us, Alan is concerned about the amount of remaining fuel. We may have to cut our speed in order to guarantee arrival. We're getting close to a weather front, as well, which will clearly have a bearing.

More concerning is the fact that Alan has thrown the toilet bucket overboard. Apparently it parted company with the handle during mid-swing, and, left with just the handle in his hands, he chucked that in afterwards.

Today has been very much a non-day. We know it's our last full day of the trip, and the distance from the Lizard is getting closer. But the problem now is that making landfall so soon could well excite interest from local media. People are likely to be able to make an intelligent guess as to where we are if they find we're trying to lie low. But that's just what we'll have to do if we don't want to steal the thunder from our big arrival in Cardiff.
