Building Spirit
Stage one -- the hull

<< back << | >> next >>

Alan and Steve checking over the plans for the hull in Northshore's factory.

Fitting the stainless steel under-deck fuel tanks into the half completed hull.

The completed hull rolls out of the factory, ready to have the tubes fitted by Henshaw Inflatables.

Next stop is Ribtec's factory near Southampton to have the engine craned into position.

Then it's back home to Offshore Expeditions industrial unit in Portsmouth for fitting out -- but the doorway is too small!

This proves to be no more than a minor problem. A bit of quick work with the angle grinder removes the offending post . . .

. . . and a few courses of bricks . . .

. . . and Spirit is squeezed into its new home.

Despite his perpetual confidence and optimism, Alan's relief is obvious!

Next there's just time for a quick bit of remedial work . . .

. . . and Alan and his team are ready to start the next stage.
